Welcome to WestCity,

We are a bunch of people who love Jesus, and as a result feel deeply committed about loving the world in His name. We believe following Jesus should be all about this and so we remain single minded in our vision. However we love expressing it in the millions of different ways that arise when you get unique, diverse, gifted people together.

We hope that you will find on this site a snap shot of what we are about, and Who we are following.

What happens when we meet on a Sunday?

Where to park?

There are two places you can park when you come to Westcity - the street parking is ample and there is also a car park on the north side of the church building.

Why we sing?

People have been singing about things for as long as civilizations have been around. The topics are diverse, we sing about love and every other topic common to humanity. We sing songs at Westcity for a few different reasons. Firstly we sing to learn. It’s not a new thing to utilize song to help us learn about God, His nature, His ways and His love. We sing songs at Westcity that teach us about God. Secondly we sing to remember. A secular artist might write a song about a break up or loosing a loved one or finding love. The song becomes a sign post to the event. In the same way we sing songs to remember what God has done amongst us as a community of faith. Thirdly because singing is part of the bigger idea the Bible talks about called “praise”. The idea here is that we boast about God in song because He is for us, the centre of all that we are about. We are all used to public displays of excitement and joy, just observe any sporting event. It shouldn’t be a surprise then that as Christians sing about God, we do so in ways that display our excitement and joy in Him.

The Message

Each week someone from the teaching team will present a message from the Bible. This message is presented in a meaningful and relevant way and will often be accompanied by an opportunity to apply what has been said. Teaching at Westcity is less about information and more about how the teachings of Jesus apply to our lives right here and now. On most weeks there will be an invitation for those who are interested to become followers of Jesus.

After the service & during the week

After the service there is opportunity to catch up with each other around a drink and some food. Because we are a community, we don’t just want to rush off but we want to allow opportunity to meet with new visitors as well as catch up with old friends. Sunday morning is where we all get together but we also get together during the week in homes or coffee shops to connect with each other and Jesus, as well as to encourage each other to love our world by how we live.

What about giving?

At Westcity, we don’t take up an offering during our meeting times but we do give. We agree that the Bible teaches us to give to the poor, to share with each other for all we need as a church community and to support those whose work is teaching and training within the church. So the people at Westcity give either threw the giving boxes situated at the back of the halls or via online transfers. We present a budget each year outlining where the finances are going to be spent, as well as a monthly update on how we are tracking.

Is there something for my kids?

When we meet together on a Sunday, there are four different children’s programs - Creche for ages 1-3, Lower Primary for our 4-6 year olds, Upper Primary for our 7-9 year olds and for the Youth aged 10-13 yrs. You can access all of these programs either through the main hall or via the two car park entries. On a Sunday morning, the Upper Primary aged kids and Youth stay in the main service for the singing and then leave the service with the leaders to go to their programs. After the service is finished your children will need to be picked up from their various programs.
